Why Kho-Kho needs purpose-built scoring
Kho-Kho under Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) and the Ultimate Kho Kho format uses 9-minute turns, defender batches of three, dream-run multipliers, sky-dive and pole-dive bonuses and a wazir / attack-the-attacker rule. None of that maps cleanly to off-the-shelf scoreboard software — the scoring engine has to encode the rule logic so the operator only taps 'touch' or 'self-out' and the system computes points, batch state and turn time.
Recommended technical setup
- Custom Kho-Kho scoring app on a referee tablet, with separate touch / dive / self-out buttons and automatic batch rotation
- Mat-side LED scoreboard plus a dedicated turn timer (large numeric display visible from both ends)
- Multi-angle replay system for sky-dive and pole-dive verification (typically 4–6 cameras into vMix Replay or EVS)
- Sky-cam / overhead drone or rail-cam for the broadcast hero shot
- Live web results pushed from the scoring engine and WhatsApp / push notifications to fans
Broadcast graphics for Kho-Kho
Ultimate Kho Kho-style productions use a permanent score bug with active defender count, turn time, dream-run multiplier and 'wazir' indicator. Add lower-thirds for defenders entering the field, stings for sky-dive touches, dream-run progression bars, and end-of-turn summary cards. End-of-match output includes top attacker / top defender stats.
Broadcast graphics typically include lower-thirds for athlete names and bios, an on-screen scoreboard or 'bug' fed live from the scoring system, dynamic start lists, results pages, head-to-head comparisons, sponsor bumpers, replay wipes, and end-of-session summary cards. Output is usually delivered over SDI from a graphics engine (vMix, Singular.live, CasparCG, or a federation-supplied template pack) into the ATEM or production switcher.
